You will be picked up from your hotel at 8 AM to enjoy a day tour of Cairo. Your first stop will be at Giza Plateau, where one of the remaining wonders of the Ancient World, the Pyramids of Giza, still stands. You will visit the Pyramids and enjoy panoramic views from the western plateau, then continue down the valley where the guardian of this Mortuary complex, the mighty Sphinx, stands with great pride. Then you will be brought to Tahrir Square, the heart of downtown Cairo. You will visit the National Archaeological Museum and acquaint yourself with Egypt’s ancient history, spanning a period of over 50 centuries. The Museum has the world’s largest and richest collection of Egyptian Antiquities, amongst them the priceless collection of King Tut. Then you will be transferred to the Giza railway station where you will take an overnight, sleeper train (half board) to Luxor (Meals included: Breakfast and dinner).
Luxor East Bank
Your breakfast will be served on the train and in the morning you will arrive in Luxor. After arrival your tour will start with an excursion to Karnak on the East Bank of Luxor. Karnak is a complex of temples built in different reigns, starting with the Avenue of Sphinxes, the Hypostyle Hall with its 134 gigantic columns, the Obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Tutomosis I, the Temple of Amon adorned with lotus and papyrus designs, the Granite Scarbeus of Amenophis III and the Sacred Lake. Karnak beats every other pharaonic monument: it is simply one of the most beautiful ancient monuments in Egypt. After Karnak you will be brought to Luxor Temple, which is dedicated to the Theben Triad of Amun-Ra, Mut and Khonsu. There you will see the granite statues of Ramses the Great. After visiting the temples you will be taken to your hotel in Luxor, where you can enjoy the rest of the day at leisure (Meals included: Breakfast).
Luxor West Bank
After breakfast you will begin the day tour of the West Bank of Luxor by crossing the Nile to visit the Colossi of Memnon. With a height of nearly 18 meters, these two statues originally stood in front of the mortuary Temple of Amenophis III, of which only ruins remain. After this site you will head on to the Valley of the Kings, the most famous concentration of royal tombs. This ancient necropolis is a must-see for Luxor travelers. Here your Egyptologist tour guide can best advise you as to which tombs to visit. Also, you can choose to see the most famous attraction, the Tomb of Tutankhamun (which carries an extra charge). After visiting the tombs you will continue to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the only woman ever to reign over Egypt as pharaoh. Later, you are free to spend the rest of the day as you like. Overnight in your hotel in Luxor (Meals included: Breakfast).
Flight to Dahab
In the morning you will be transferred to the airport for a short flight to Sharm El Sheikh. Upon arrival at the airport you will be transferred to your hotel in Dahab (approx. 1 hour). Here you can spend the afternoon and evening at leisure (Meals included: Breakfast).
Dahab and St. Catherine
Today is a snorkeling day and Dahab’s Blue Hole is renowned for this water activity. Here, where the mountains meet the sea, nature has created a unique and beautiful geological formation. Enjoy the underwater views and relax until the midday sun reflects on the azure blue waters. Then, you return to your hotel for some free time. At night you will be taken to St. Catherine. You can ascend Mount Sinai (Gebel Musa) overnight by foot to watch the sunrise up on the mountain. After descend you can visit the Monastery of St. Catherine, after which you will be transferred back to Dahab where you can spend the day as you like (Meals included: Breakfast).
In the morning you will be picked up for an adventurous 4x4 Jeep safari into the rugged mountainous areas of the Sinai Peninsula. Here you visit the Coloured Canyon. This phenomenal natural wonder will surround you with colorful walls of red, pink, purple, yellow and gold. Then you will go through the Double Canyon to head on to the Valley of the Wings. Next, it is onwards to Nawames El Kom. Sand dunes are your playground until lunch at the oasis, where local Bedouins are your convivial hosts. A relaxed early evening drive will take you back to your hotel in Dahab where you spend the night (Meals included: Breakfast and lunch).
Day off in Dahab
This day you can spend as you wish, or you can take the optional tour to Petra in Jordan.
Optional day tour to Petra
At 5 AM you will be picked up from your hotel in Dahab by a private air-conditioned car to be driven to Taba (approx. 2 hours) where you take the ferry boat, leaving at 7:30 AM and arriving in Aqaba at 8:45 AM. You will drive to Petra by bus (approx. 2 hours) where your tour with a local guide will begin. You enter Petra on foot, through the Siq, a narrow, winding gorge over 1 kilometer in length. You will see the Great Treasury (Al-Khazneh Farun), the Roman Theatre, the Royal Tombs (the Rainbow Tomb is a must for photographers), as well as hundreds of monuments, tricliniums and obelisks, all carved from the multi-shaded rose red sandstone. A walk through the colonnade of Roman Byzantine Petra brings you to the city centre. Afterward, you continue the tour to the Hill of Al-Habis (crowned with a crusader-era fort) for a breathtaking panoramic view of deep gullies and uniquely colored rock formations. After sightseeing Petra a late lunch buffet will be served at the Mövenpick hotel at the entrance of the site. Afterwards you will drive back to Aqaba. Here you can spend an hour of free time for shopping or having something to drink before taking the ferry back to Taba at 7:30 PM. From Taba you will be transferred back to your hotel in Dahab.
Departure to Cairo
Today you will be driven to Sharm El Sheikh Airport for your flight to Cairo. Check in at your hotel and spend the rest of your day as you like. Overnight at your hotel (Meals included: Breakfast).
